Engineering Performance Solutions, LLC was established by a team of individuals with roots in the water treatment industry. Our company is a symbiotic combination of both a laboratory and a consulting firm. One founding principle of EPS has been the education and improvement of that industry through lab-scale testing of technologies to guide the engineering and operation of treatment systems for cost-effective solutions and the highest-quality of water.

About Rick Loftis

Rick Loftis is the owner of Engineering Performance Solutions, LLC, which he co-founded in Gainesville, FL in 2002. Rick is also a co-principal investigator of a Department of Energy funded proposal of turning coal waste into activated carbon, and a co-principal investigator of an American Water Works Company novel thermal reactivation protocol for turning spent granular activated carbon into a reactivated granular carbon that outperforms its virgin counterpart.


As owner of Engineering Performance Solutions, LLC, Rick helps provide cost-effective laboratory and consulting services to the water treatment industry. Rick graduated from the University of Florida in May 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering Sciences. He is a member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and the AWWA Standards Committee for Activated Carbon Testing.

About Christine Valcarce

Christine Valcarce joined Engineering Performance Solutions, LLC in 2020 as a Lab Director overseeing laboratory projects and quality control operations. Her experience at Engineering Performance Solutions, LLC includes over 100 GAC RSSCT column projects for TOC, pesticides, PFAS, Taste and Odor compounds, and other compounds of interest. Christine has also worked on quality management system implementation and the design of experiments, data analysis, and technical reports.


Christine is Vice Chairman of the ASTM Activated Carbon Committee and a member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA). She graduated from the University of Florida in August 2014 with a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering. Christine's focus is in water quality and activated carbon. 


She holds 9 patents in activated carbon product development.

ABOUT KAITLYN RULLO

Kaitlyn Rullo is an experienced Laboratory Manager at Engineering Performance Solutions, joining in 2021, specializing in environmental testing for activated carbon applications in potable and wastewater sources. With a strong foundation in environmental science and active engagement in graduate studies, Kaitlyn is committed to a lifelong career in this field. She has a particular research interest in microplastics and their impact on terrestrial ecosystems.


Kaitlyn has been a member of the American Water Works Association since 2023. She has presented at the American Aquaculture Conference in 2024 in San Antonio, TX. She also gave a presentation at the ACE Conference in Anaheim, CA, in 2024.
